Talk About Sore Losers — Republicans Strip Powers From Offices Before Dems Get There

  • by: Kevin Mathews

Talk about sore losers. Republicans in Wisconsin and Michigan are hurrying to strip certain offices soon to be held by Democrats of as much power as possible!

Elections are important because they give people the power to retain or change their leaders periodically. Two states traditionally led by Republicans, Wisconsin and Michigan, just saw Democrats score big victories for their governors and attorneys general, indicating that the people of these states are ready to move in a different direction.

Alas, the Republicans of these states do not want to concede power. They're using their lame-duck session to rush through legislation that would strip these respective positions of some of their power and hand it back to the legislatures where Republicans still hold a majority (in the case of Wisconsin, thanks exclusively to gerrymandering.)

North Carolina's GOP tried something similar a couple years ago when it lost the governorship and the courts ruled it unconstitutional. The GOP should be ashamed for being such sore losers and trying to undermine the will of the voters.

We're asking the outgoing governors, Scott Walker and Rick Snyder, to veto the legislation from Republican legislators to attempt to usurp power. If the incoming Democratic governors agree this shift of power is appropriate and not just a partisan attack, let them be the ones to sign this legislation so that it has bipartisan approval.
