The Covid Focus Act 2020

Directors of Nursing, supervisors, and managers are trying to cope with staffing challenges, angry family members, sick/dying residents/staff and all the while covering medication carts and trying to do our own jobs during this COVID-19 pandemic. We educate and make sure staff are following "policies" and procedure the best we can. Office of Inspector General personnel continue to come into long term care facilities, to do infection control focused surveys, complaints surveys and annual surveys, and are truly disrupting the staff and the care of the residents. When OIG surveyors come into a facility (during a pandemic) for a complaint 9 months ago, regarding medical records, or cite a facility for hugging a crying patient (trying to comfort them) is terribly unethical and inhumane!  WE ARE TRYING TO CARE FOR SICK AND DYING PATIENTS AND TRYING TO SAVE THEIR LIVES!!!!! We are trying to keep our facilities from falling apart!!!!! I think it is unethical to come in and attempt to drill facilities on their "policies," and nursing note quality when our patient's lives are more important to focus on especially during a pandemic!!!!!! You would think that the government agencies would come in to try to help take care of patients and give guidance instead of trying to cite and fine facilities over anything they can for MONEY. I am petitioning that all OIG surveys are ceased until after the pandemic is over unless it is for an serious life threatening issue or abuse allegation. This petition will be sent to state representatives/senators. Nurses are on the front lines trying to save patients lives and prevent COVID-19 from spreading... and the last thing we need is OIG surveyors coming in taking the focus away from our patients to give citations on non-critical issues.
