Pregnant Refugees Are Not Getting the Maternity Care They Need

A heartbreaking report from charity Doctors of the World has revealed that many of the pregnant refugees who end up in Greece are not given vital care before, during and after their baby's birth. The report describes how this puts both mother and baby at increased risk.

The charity has called for pre- and post-natal care and safe deliveries for refugees across the whole of Europe. They argue that it is not only our humanitarian duty, but it will prevent longer term health issues that would demand far greater medical resources.

Fleeing across the Mediterranean is a terrifying and potentially deadly decision. Many of the refugees who arrive pregnant are traumatised and in unimaginably difficult circumstances with little or no support. They don't deserve further cruelty or neglect. They deserve safety and compassion.

No human - mother or baby - being should be without proper care. Please sign this petition to demand proper care for pregnant women and new mothers who arrive in Europe as refugees.
The European Commission:

Doctors of the Worl's recent report has revealed that many of the pregnant refugees who end up in Greece are not given vital care before, during and after their baby's birth. This puts mother and baby at risk.

It also creates future medical complications which will demand far greater resources to address.

It is our humanitarian responsibility to provide care to pregnant refugees and new mothers.
