Stop Brave Trails from Using Generative AI

Brave Trails is an American organization dedicated to encouraging queer youth to pursue leadership. On their social media pages and in emails to families registered with them, they have used generative AI to create images and text (this can be surmised by analysis, and I have also received confirmation that BT uses generative AI for communication). Not only is this disingenuous and shows unwillingness to coordinate with artists in the BT community, generative AI has been shown to have negative consequences on the environment and communities that have had data centers built in them (see sources at end). AI data centers are disproportionately built in communities primarily composed of people of color (again see sources). Additionally, the producers of the art, photographs, and literature that was used to train AI did not consent to its use and could not have reasonably known at the time of publishing that it would be used for this purpose. By signing this petition, you are sharing your opinion that you would like Brave Trails to cease their use of generative AI for communication or otherwise.
