Pass the No President is Above the Law Act

The Mueller report clearly showed that Donald Trump committed obstruction of justice, but he was not indicted due to long-standing precedent that a sitting president cannot be indicted.

And if Trump avoids impeachment (or removal), and gets re-elected in 2020, there is a strong likelihood that he will never face criminal charges. That is because, by 2025, the statute of limitations on some criminal activity may have expired.

Such a likelihood is possible. Even if the House were to impeach Trump, it is unlikely that enough Senators would vote by two-thirds majority to remove him from office. And counting on Trump losing re-election in 2020 is a risky and unknowable endeavor at this point.

That's why we must take action now. House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, along with Reps. Peter Deutsch & Eric Swalwell, have sponsored the No President is Above the Law Act. The measure would pause any statute of limitations while a President is in office, so that a lawless executive cannot just run the clock and evade liability.

I am very concerned that Donald Trump will run the clock, and avoid any indictments after he leaves office—due to any statute of limitations. Please pass the No President is Above the Law Act.
