Petition to Restore State Representation in Congress - Repeal the 17th Amendment
By signing this petition I assert my belief that states are better represented at the Federal level when their senators are appointed by state legislatures rather than by direct election.
I believe that when senators are held accountable to their states, they better represent the populations from which they derive their power. When senators are elected directly, they represent only the interest of their political party and lobbyists - the money machine that funds their re-election campaigns.
Powerful corporations and industry lobbies who fund campaigns do not always have the best interests of my state at heart.
I call for the repeal of the 17 amendment so the the checks and balances of the Constitution may be restored and so that my state may have greater assurance that the will of our citizens is represented in Washington.
Honorable Sir or Madam,
We the signers of this petition respectfully request that you initiate or support ongoing efforts in our state to repeal the 17 Amendment to the constitution.
The benefits for its original implementation no longer (if they ever did) out way the costs of circumventing the checks and balances of the Constitution.
Please do your part to make sure that voice of the people of our state is what is heard in Washington. Our state is great and if we appoint our senators they will represent us rather than the various parties that fund their election campaigns. They are our employees and the should be working for us and doing the bidding of our state.
Many Thanks,
