Ban the Sale & Trade of Shark Fin Products in the USA

Most people feel fear when it comes to sharks but they are creatures that are natural creatures of the deep.  They as any other wild animal deserve to be in their natural habitat. However, these predators also fall victim to the most dangerous predators known as humans to provide products for resale, meat and fins.  You would be extremely disturbed to see how the fins are often removed from the sharks while still alive, tossing them back into the waters where they can only perish from drowning.  Read more on the horrific industry of shark fins at http://act.oceana.org/sign/Congress_shark-fin-ban_2016?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Social&utm_content=201606finban&utm_campaign=Sharks & https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/5584?q=%7B%22search%22%3A%5B%22shark+fin%22%5D%7D&resultIndex=1

According to the facts, fins from up to 73 million sharks end up in the global fin trade every year. Shark finning is cruel and inhumane.  As all the fins are removed from the shark while alive, it can no longer swim or do anything to survive if tossed back into the water.  Although it is illegal for shark finning in American waters, they are still bought and sold worldwide.

The purpose of this petition is to urge Congress to prohibit the sale and trade of all shark fin products in the United States pending legislation of H. R. 5584, S. 3095 - Shark Fin Trade Elimination Act of 2016. The only way to ensure that the U. S. is not in support of shark finning through a nationwide ban on the trade of shark fins, an effort in protecting sharks worldwide. You can support this issue by signing and sharing this petition, adding your own comments and ideas on this crucial matter.

U. S. Congress – In light of the pending legislation of H. R. 5584, S. 3095 - Shark Fin Trade Elimination Act of 2016, I strongly urge you to prohibit the sale and trade of all shark fin products throughout the United States.  Sharks have been in our waters for millions of years and their biggest threats are humans through activities such as overfishing, bycatch and the demand for shark fins which now poses the greatest threat to their survival. The only way to ensure that the U. S. is not in support of shark finning through a nationwide ban on the trade of shark fins, an effort in protecting sharks worldwide. Since 2010, the United States has imported fins from 11 countries, five of which do not have any type of finning ban. Many of the sharks targeted for their fins have long lifespans, mature slowly, and produce relatively few young, making them especially vulnerable to overexploitation and population loss. The Shark Fin Trade Elimination Act is meant to create a nationwide prohibition on the trade of shark fins, therefore reinforcing the status of the United States as a leader in shark conservation. Please ensure the ban on shark finning and support the pending legislation of the Shark Fin Trade Elimination Act.
