This unique historical building is the only commercial stone building surviving in Downtown Lee's Summit. It represents a modest utilitarian, but solid construction linked to two important local families: The H.J. Hess family, (the architect), and the W.C. Cooper family, (the builder). The Ice House served Lee's Summit as a meat packing business, an Ice House, an automobile garage, an antique store and an antique auction business. The City of Lee's Summit bought it and should repurpose it to be part of the voter approved "Downtown City Market Plaza." Once listed on the National Register of Historic Places, our City of Lee's Summit should identify a private-for-business entity to operate the Ice House and benefit from generous tax credits for approved restoration, 25% State of Missouri plus 20% Federal Government for approved restoration work.

Hello to all: UPDATE on the Ice House in Lee's Summit, MO. City Council reviews demo options for the Ice House. No mention about the 3D rendition that the local Historic Preservation Commission asked for in late 2022, before it was dissolved on January 1, 2023. Hello and thanks to all of you who kindly signed the petition. It was delivered to the City Council during the Sept. 6, 2022 meeting. It was a true preservation apocalypse. It was totally ignored by city officials who focussed on a half baked presentation made by the developper and the architect for the proposed Downtown City Plaza. The flawed dollar figures for the cost of restore the Ice House, 3 M$ didn't take into account the cost of the new building 1.2 M$.
