Kevin Coughlin is more than just a high school teacher. He is more than just a guy who assigns students homework. He did more than give us a textbook to read. He is someone who taught us some of the most valuable life lessons, like love and self discipline. He is an amazing mentor who not only challenged us to think outside the textbook, but also how to think critically and to be proud of our opinion . He has much more to offer than most teachers you'll find, and it's atrocious not to offer a contract to someone like him for a job he is meant to do. He was a huge part of achieving the accomplishment of TCA being named the #1 high school in the state of Minnesota and should continue to be apart of such an honor. Mr. Coughlin was also our most experienced teacher at TCAHS, and teachers only get better with experience. Mr. Coughlin wasn't offered a new contract based on personal opinions. Opinions on his methods that worked well to help TCA get to the status of being the #1 high school in Minnesota. He has emotionally touched many students and we think it's unfair to not offer a new contract to such an amazing person simply because one does not agree with his methods of teaching. Methods that positively effected many students. The same students that have gained relationships with Mr. Coughlin, and a tremendous amount of respect for him. We do not need more "standardized teachers." We need more teachers like Mr. Coughlin.
