Shift Kaikohe Liquor Store Away From the Children's Playground

The Shed Liquor Centre has applied for its' off-license to sell alcohol to be renewed. The business is located 25 metres from a children's play ground, park, library and public toilets. Unfortunately some of their customers use the park as their 'garden bar' and the area has become unsafe. This has been an ongoing concern. The police and council staff do not regularly monitor and enforce the alcohol ban bylaws. The solution is to not renew the license until the business is relocated to a better place and the problems are addressed. The community needs to be empowered to have more control over the sale of alcohol in sensitive areas like next to children's playgrounds.
