URGENT: STOP THE MASSACRE OF FOXES AND THEIR BABIES IN SIENA (TUSCANY, ITALY)

  • by: Dace Fridrihsone
  • recipient: President of the Province of Siena Mr Bezzini and his councilors

Starting from the 1st of April 2013 the Administration of the Province of Siena (Tuscany, Italy) gives the permission to hunt foxes in their dens, in order to kill both the adults and the babies which are usually born now in March.

The fox hunting is already allowed in the Province of Siena almost year round. The additional fox hunting in the den that is when the fox can be pursued even when it has gone to ground means only one thing: no chance to escape the death. Dozens and dozens of fox cubs which are born in this period and which are too small to defend their life are going to be torn to peaces by angry hounds, trained to get into the fox dens while those few foxes which will manage to escape the hounds are going to be flushed to guns by the hunts waiting at the entrance of the den. It’s cruel and inhuman to give them no other possibility but death.

Please help us to do everything we can to stop this cruelty here and now. We need your support all over the world. May be an international voice will be taken more seriously than that one of thousands of Italians who are daily writing letters and emails to the Administration of the Province of Siena, signing the online petitions and organizing a peaceful protest in front of the headquarters of the Province of Siena on the 30th of March 2013 to stop this barbaric massacre.

What can YOU do to make the Administration of the Province of Siena to revoke this cruel and causeless decision immediately?

1) spread this message among your friends and acquaintances, on facebook and in other social networks;

2) send a short email now to the President of the Province of Siena and his councilors to say your NO on the fox hunting in the den starting on the 1st April 2013 in the Province of Siena.

Dear Mr Bezzini,

Dear Councilors of the Province of Siena,

I’m writing you in support of Italian animal lovers who are working hard to prevent a massacre on foxes and their cubs in the Province of Siena starting April 1st, 2013.

From this date the Administration of the Province of Siena has given the permission to hunt foxes in their dens, in order to kill both adult foxes and their cubs who are born in the month of March.

I am aware that fox hunting is already allowed in the Province of Siena almost year round.

However, 'fox hunting in the den' is particularly cruel in that the fox can be pursued even when it has 'gone to ground', – meaning escaped into their den. This way there's no chance for the fox to escape death. Usually the chase of the fox is supposed to end when the fox has 'gone to ground', the hounds will stop there, being trained that way, and also called by the hunters.

Hunting foxes in their dens is also cruel as foxes have cubs in the month of April. Dozens of fox cubs, who are too young to defend themselves, are thus going to be torn to pieces by angry and blood thirsty hounds, trained to go into the fox's den. The few adult foxes who will manage to escape the hounds, will be gunned down by hunters waiting at the entrance of the den, while their babies will be shredded to pieces by the hounds. This type of fox hunting is cruel beyond words, and is usually considered unfair and unsportsmanlike.

Fox hunting with hounds is always cruel though, which explains why 'The Hunting Act of 2004' (which bans hunting with dogs) in England is protected vigorously by English animal lovers. This legislation came thru' in 2004 after many years of hard work by animal rights activists.

I write today to urge you to prevent the massacre of Italian foxes and their beautiful fox-babies which is due to commence on April 1st, 2013. With only a few days to go before this date, there's no time to waste, it must be stopped now! It is cruel to let hounds go into foxes' dens and murder both adult foxes and their cubs. Please do all you can to prevent these needless killings.

Thank you for your urgent attention to this important issue, – please show the world that Italy is a nation of animal lovers, not a nation of barbarians who will murder mothers with newborn babies.

Sincerely,
