Demand the Florida Board of Governors Abolish the "Bottom 3" Policy

The Board of Governors continues to run a system of oppression with their performance based metric funding model that punishes Universities that fall into the bottom three and the Florida Legislature continues to support it. FAMU received $0 in performance funding from the state again, meanwhile the largest Florida schools (FSU, UF, FIU) have gotten millions and millions of dollars in funding. FSU specifically has gotten $98.7 million dollars in performance funding. These schools already have plenty of funding and will receive additional funds from the state. Florida A&M University, University of North Florida, and New College of Florida did not receive new state funding due to low performance scores.

The Performance Based Funding model has four guiding principles: 1) use metrics that align with SUS Strategic Plan goals, 2) reward excellence or improvement, 3) have a few clear, simple metrics, and 4) acknowledge the unique mission of the different institutions.

This is outrageous because FAMU desperately needs more funding for resources, to hire faculty and open more classes, but because of Florida’s performance-based funding metrics, today FAMU was allocated $0 from the state for placing second-to-last among the bottom three schools.

This petition is calling for the abolishment of the "Bottom 3" Policy that has been adopted by the Florida Board of Governors Budget and Finance Committee.
