Student lead gun control walkout for March 14th

On Wednesday, February 14th, a 19 year old took an automatic assault rifle to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. He shot and killed 17 teenagers and teachers and injured many others. This is one of at least 239 school shootings since 2012. 239 shootings. That totals up to a shooting once a week for the past five years in America. As high school students and American citizens we should not stand for this. The fact that A 19 YEAR OLD was able to get his hands on an AUTOMATIC ASSULT RIFLE is absolutely outrageous. In America you only need to be 18 or even 16 in some states to buy a weapon like this. To fix that there are 2 roads that we the people can take. Either we can ban guns or we can heavily set back the age restriction and deepen background checks. Canada banned automatic and semi-automatic assault rifles in 1979 and they have had 7 school shootings while we have had 239 since 2012 alone. This scenario can happen to any school. It doesn't matter if you go to a public, private or boarding school, this could happen to you. Why don't you help prevent it. On March 14th 2018 at 10:00 AM there will be a nationwide walkout to protest Congress' inaction to do more than tweet thoughts and prayers in response to the gun violence. The event will last 17 minutes with each minute to represent each person killed. What you and your school organizes is up to you but send a powerful message with it. The walkout will be during school hours so alert your teachers or principal of the event. This is a call to all high schoolers for every state in this country. We need to make a stand now to better the future for this country.
