My family and I have visited Spanish countries and islands many times, especially Lanzarote. I love browsing the tourist shops. However, one thing that I do not love so much about these shops is the sale of real fur trinkets, souvenirs, handbag accessories, etc. An ironic thing is that these souvenirs are often styled to look like animals!
Let me tell you how the fur for these trinkets may be obtained. Animals are often trapped using horrible leg-hold traps and snares, causing gruesome and agonising injuries. If the animal doesn't chew through their own leg or paw to break free, or die due to infection, or otherwise die in agony, they may be brutally beaten or strangled to death by the trapper. Animals like foxes, minke, raccoons, raccoon dogs, rabbits and chinchillas are also cruelly caged and bred on fur farms. Some foxes are even deliberately bred to be obese so that they will have more skin and fur. The animals are then wickedly killed by lethal injection, neck-breaking, beating, strangulation, electrocution, poisoning or gassing. All this for their fur to end up be used and sold in fur coats, hats, gloves, mittens, pom-poms, accessories and souvenirs!

I am a frequent tourist to Lanzarote, and some of the signers of this petition may also be frequent visitors. Yet, we are all disgusted by Spain's animal cruelty problems!!! We kindly DEMAND that you stop selling these trinkets NOW!!!! We could boycott any shops that sell real fur until the offending items are taken off the shelves, never to be sold there again!!!!!!
