Government of Spain: Stop controlling the spending of Madrid City Council!

Spain's government has decided to intervene the municipal government of Madrid for not respecting the spending rule that has been established statewide. Now the City Council depends on the government to approve their expenses, lacking independence to solve the problems of the Madrid citizens.

It’s true that the City Council has not met this spending limit. But dozens of municipalities and regions across Spain haven't either. And it’s more relevant the fact that the City Council has reduced the huge deficit previously left by the conservative Popular Party government, an achievement that is turning the capital into one of the more financially healthy cities of Spain.

The reasons for this intervention seem to be more political: the Conservative Spanish government wants to prevent a municipality governed by ordinary citizens can continue making any progressive and social policies.

If you want to stop this, sign now this petition to ask the government of Spain to stop controlling the spending of Madrid City Council.
