Tell Walmart to Stop Selling Cruel Glue Traps

Glue traps are a major environmental and animal rights issue that we must work on to discontinue. Since Walmart is the #1 retailer in the world that happens to sell these traps, it is vital that we convince them to stop the sale of them. One of the reasons why Walmart is so successful is because their leaders are innovative trendsetters. If we can convince Walmart to stop selling glue traps, other companies will feel compelled to do the same.

Once this petition gets enough signatures, I will be sending it over to various Walmart corporate leaders.

I also thought I should add a letter that I will be sending off pertaining to this issue so that you may read the details and see the thought put into it:

Hello,

I need your help to discontinue the glue traps Walmart sells. Glue traps are cruel and inhumane, and I believe Walmart can do better.

Breaking off the sales of glue traps has many benefits:

-A more humane world. Glue traps are used to catch mice and other small pests, but then the creatures are left to starve or die of hypothermia over several days. The creatures are usually left terrified and in pain, many breaking their bones while trying to escape. This is tortuous practice that can easily be prevented with more humane alternatives, such as live traps and repellents.

-Safety for "non-pest" animals. Glue traps indiscriminately adhere to any creature that touches them, from insects and mice to babies and pets. While it's possible to remove the glue trap, the process is often terrifying and painful. Some victims are not discovered until it is too late, a situation especially tragic in the case of beneficial creatures that nonetheless die a slow, agonizing death.

-Reduced spread of disease. When an animal is trapped in a glue trap, it frequently defecates in its terror. The pathogens spread by this make glue traps much more likely to cause disease than kill traps or gentler live traps. Even if an animal is discovered quickly upon being trapped (not unlikely as the creatures usually cry out in terror), there is a high risk that it will bite or urinate in duress, further increasing the likelihood of spreading pathogens.

-Walmart will improve its reputation as a progressive company. I know you are already working on reducing the amount of plastic that is used in stores. While this is a good first step, there is so much more Walmart could be doing to show that it is moving toward a better future. Avoiding products that cause unnecessary pain and suffering, both for intended victims and inadvertent ones, goes a long way toward showing that Walmart is not a heartless entity that only cares about profit.

Thanks for your time in reading this. I hope we can get started on this soon.

Sincerely,

Stephanie M.
