PETITION AGAINST ROTN. ONYI OKAFOR (ROTARACT COMMITTEE CHAIR) AND THE KANGAROO APPOINTMENTT OF ROTR.

PETITION AGAINST ROTN. ONYI OKAFOR (ROTARACT COMMITTEE CHAIR) AND THE KANGAROO APPOINTMENTT OF ROTR. CHUKWUEMEKA. E. OHAJUNWA AS DRRN IN ENUGU.

Once again the Rotaract District 9/40, Nigeria is being held to her by then perennial problem, of district leadership selection. The smooth leadership selection process being experienced in the district due to the separation of District Election from District Conferences for the past few years is been threatened by Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor (Chairman, Rotaract Committee) and his cohort.

I write to officially express my disclaimer and un-acceptance of Rotn. Chukwuemeka Emmanuel Ohajuna as the DRRN as being reported and paraded by Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor in a Fraudulent and Kangaroo selection held on Friday 26th June, 2009 at the prince Palace Hotel, Enugu and that the said process which was conducted and stage managed by Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor and his cohorts was done without adherence to the Rotaract District 9140, Bye-Laws and that the laudable purpose, goals, policies and ideologies of Rotaract District 9140, was seriously threatened, abused, distorted and relegated to the background.

The reasons are:

Article X: Sub sections (a), (e), (f), (g), (h) states that, Article X: Sub section (a) of the Rotaract District Bye-Laws states that:  %u201CAn Electoral Committee shall be appointed with approval of the Council to reflect the district structure. The DRR shall appoint the Chairman and the Secretary while others shall be nominated from the various zones that make up the District%u201D.

(c) %u201CThe Electoral Committee shall be charged with the conduct of the DRR (N) election. The District Rotaract Committee Chairman or any other Rotaract Committee member shall serve as Ex-officio member of the committee%u201D.

(e) %u201COnly clubs in good standing during the election year shall be eligible to nominate candidates%u201D.

(f) %u201COnly Clubs in good standing shall be eligible to vote during the election on the basis of one vote per club%u201D.

(g) %u201CThe finally list of cleared clubs (Clubs in good standing shall be announced and published at the District conference%u201D.

(j) %u201CThe result of the election shall be officially communicated by the DRR to the chairman, District Rotaract Committee not later than 14 days after the election%u201D.

Based on these legal facts backing the activities and Administration of the Rotaract District 9140, Nigeria, I wish to state that%u201D

1.                  The Electoral Committee which was appointed with the approval of the District Council, saddled with the responsibilities of conducting a free fair and credible election was supped of their powers by Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor by firstly using the powers of the IPDG to move the election venue which was already paid for, from Edo State (Auchi) to Enugu, to enable him (Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor) perpetrates his evil and demonic act and achieves his selfish aims.

2.                  The 2nd may 2009 fixed for the election actually revealed the selfish aims of Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor and his cohorts like Mr. Alex Ugbchukwu Uchendu who mounted pressure on me, on the said date, and the election could no longer hold due to the inconveniences of the venue and security of Rotaractors present. Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor, then requested me to send to him District materials for the election like: Forms for the four contestant, financial position of clubs, cleared clubs for the election and receipt booklets for the District, these materials where made available to Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor 11th May, 2009 excluding the receipt booklet and meeting attendance sheet.

It was expected that, whatever screening he%u2019d wanted to carry out should have be done within one or two weeks of receipt of these documents, but instead, he (Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor) kept these materials to himself all for selfish aim that, he (Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor) would still be returining as Chairman, Rotaract Activites for the 2009/2010 Rotary year. In the month of June 2009, when he was informed that the Chairman, Rotaract Committee for the 2009/2010 is Rotn. Buchi Onuoha. It was done on him then that his selfish aim could no longer be achieved, which made him (Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor) came up with the sudden date of 26th June, 2009 for the DRRN election which he communicated me on Tuesday 16th June 2009 and on 20th June 2009, I had to send him an SMS that the said date would not be convenient for me because, I have to defend my classification in Lagos on the weekend of 26th and that, the election issue should be discussed during the DRR installation taking place in Enugu on July 4th 2009, But instead he resulted to sending invitation to selected zonal representatives and club presidents inviting them for election.

3.                  Of the four contestants for the position of the DRRN which were screened during the District conference in Uyo, Akw Ibom, why would only one be invited for the kangaroo selection? If it wasn%u2019t for a selfish aim.

Finally, I call upon you and Rotary District 9140 Nigeria to use your good office to stop this ugly trend that tend to disintegrate the great Rotaract movement of over 185 clubs and loosing it members.

·                    I believe that, the standard Rotaract club constitution and standard Rotaract club Bye-Laws is committed to upholding leadership based on the interest of the majority.

·                    I believe that, Rotary must pick up the primary assignment of effective sponsorship and Rotary-Rotaract relationship and support with objectivity the course of upholding truth, without bias to ethnic or personal friendship bias.

·                    I hope to see the Rotary District, maybe not conform to this brief but take action against these men of doom in Rotaract and Rotary.

As we believe in the four Way Test and the purpose and Goals of Rotaract, we pray you intervene as follows:

·                    For total fairness as preached in the 4 Way Test, Rotary should use their good positions and as sponsors of Rotaract Clubs conduct Election for the District where all good financial standing clubs should be allowed to exercise their franchise for the 2008/2009 Rotary year.

·                    Rotn. Onyi Okafor should be made to refund moneys collected from the 39 clubs that were present at Enugu,

·                    If as claimed by Rotn. Onyi S. Okafor, that Election was actually conducted he should make available to the District name of clubs that participated and their respective Zones.

I sincerely plead for your fatherly intervention because all these antics are geared towards some selfish aims.
