The 3 year United Voters campaign for PR & the abolition of FPTP

On the day of the 2015 UK General Election, the candidate i voted for was beaten by a candidate from another party and was therefore not elected. Under the current 'First Past The Post' electoral system, my vote went no further and was rendered unimportant, irrelevant and obsolete.

It felt like i had lost my voice, however i am far from alone - 24.3%, or 7,454,574 of the electorate who voted in the 2015 UK General Election are represented by only 10 parliamentary seats out of 650.

In light of the constitutional crisis now facing the UK, The Democratic Revolution Movement have decided to embark on a 3 year campaign to reform the Electoral system.

Why a 3 year campaign?

Despite the fantastic efforts of recent petitioners which, when combined, totalled over 533,993 signatures, the issue of voting reform has only just begun and it is highly unlikely there will be any parlimentary movement this side of the 2020 General Election. To deliver a strong petition 2 years prior to the next General Election would place electoral reform at the heart of most political party's manifestos and it's omission would likely be a vote loser.

We are campaigning for the 'First Past The Post' voting system to be abolished and replaced with a Full 'Proportional Representation Party List Voting - Closed list system' where only the party or coalition with more than 50% of the combined share of the national vote is given a mandate to govern.

We are also planning a co-ordinated 'mouth taped' silent protest in London involving other electoral reform groups and organisations. By doing this, our intention is to emphasise the silent voices of the unrepresented and the disenfranchised. Our current plans are to begin the rally outside the Houses of Parliament moving to 10 Downing Street where we will present our petition to the Prime Minister David Cameron exactly 3 years from the date of the formation of The Democratic Revolution Movement, Friday 11th May 2018.

WE ARE TARGETING 1 MILLION SIGNATURES BY 11/05/2018. THE BIGGER THE PETITION, THE GREATER THE IMPACT. DO YOUR BIT, SIGN OUR ONLINE PETITION NOW.

We have also created a 'The 3 year United Voters campaign for PR & the abolition of FPTP' paper petition, to run alongside the online petition, which can be downloaded by clicking on the following link;

Update #28 years ago
Due to technical reasons, this petition will be closed down in 48 hours time. We have also decided to take an alternative strategic direction by changing the person whom we are petitioning from David Cameron to the new leader of the Labour Party (to be announced in due course). Thankyou to all for your participation, we would like to invite you to sign our new petition which is available through our Facebook page...www.facebook.com/unitedvotersforukelectoralreform
Update #18 years ago
Thankyou for uniting with us. After careful consideration, we have decided to rename this petition to 'The 3 year United Voters campaign for PR & the abolition of FPTP' in order to give the campaign a title that stands out by defining exactly what it is we are campaigning for. Our intention is also to emphasise the silent voices of the unrepresented and the disenfranchised, hence the change of picture. ** PLEASE HELP US FURTHER BY SHARING ON FACEBOOK AND TWITTER **
