So... Only Men Work?

Every time I pass by those construction signs that read "Men Working" or "Men At Work", I can't help but think to myself... what about the women who perform that same job? I wonder how they feel, standing beside those signs and shoveling asphalt or directing traffic.

Why is it, that even though we are nearly two whole decades into the 21st century, our country still broadcasts male-only signage on the side of the road at almost every construction site? Even though it may be subtle, it's like an ugly reminder that inequality is still alive and well in our society and workforce today, for everyone to see as they slowly drive by.

After speaking with women who actually work on such sites, some play it off among themselves with attempted humor, but it is still a big elephant in the room that has to have an effect on their mindsets and how they are not equally represented like their male co-workers.

Please help me raise awareness by taking a quick moment to sign this petition asking to change the "Men Working" sign to "People Working" or another phrase that includes all workers. There is a very small number of US cities that have repainted their "Men Working" or "Men At Work" signs, but our road signs should reflect accurately everywhere. If I can gather up enough signatures before I take it to the Federal Highway Administration of the US Department of Transportation, I believe that we can change that old fashion and out-dated sign into one that is more accurate in its description. This should be a no-brainer!
