Nearly 90% of Americans
support legalizing cannabis in some capacity. In a wildly divided and partisan era,
almost no other political issue has this degree of widespread support. Yet cannabis is still illegal in over a dozen states, and hundreds of thousands of Americans are still arrested on cannabis-related charges each year. It is time for U.S. President Joe Biden to step up and sign an executive order to legalize cannabis for good!

On top of that,
taxes on recreational cannabis can benefit states tremendously. In fact,
Colorado was able to put over $60 million towards school programs and other state programs in 2015 because of money made from cannabis taxes.
Perhaps most importantly, though,
legalizing cannabis will also help reduce the number of people whom authorities put behind bars for drug-related reasons. It is time we work to correct decades of injustice done by the racist War on Drugs and legalize cannabis for good.
If we continue to wait for Republican legislators - who have held the same views on social issues since the 1950s - to change their mind on cannabis, Congress might not pass a bill legalizing cannabis for decades.
