Control the deer over-population problem in Boone, Now!

Deer over-population in the Town of Boone has reached a critical level. Automobile accidents, cases of lyme disease, and property damage are on the rise. In the neighborhood of University Village alone, we have spent $45,000+ over the last 5 years on medical bills to treat auto accident injuries and lyme disease (people and pets), repair vehicles after hitting deer, replace plantings that the deer have eaten or destroyed, and install fencing and other deer counter-measures. The natural predators for deer have been essentially eliminated, leaving deer population growth unchecked. Town residents who feed deer are greatly adding to the problem. Currently, the town has no plans to resolve the deer over-population problem.

By signing this petition, you agree to join our chorus of Boone residents to ask the Town Council to:

(1) develop and deploy a deer and wildlife management plan similar to what has been instituted in other states, counties, and municipalities; and
(2) make feeding deer illegal in the town limits that carries a fine (e.g. $250) and possible jail time for repeat offenders.
