A PLEA TO Mayor Bevilacqua, Mayor of the City of Vaughan

With Vaughan Animal Services refusing to allow North Toronto Cat Rescue to remain in our current location, we are asking for your support after 2.5 years in a building that is slated for demolition (due to redevelopment in 2-3 years). This building is not in an area that impacts anyone as on the West there is an empty piece of land and on the East is an empty building also awaiting demolition. In order to remain on this Commercial property, North Toronto Cat Rescue hired lawyers to obtain a temporary Minor Variance (minor zoning issue) but as the hearing neared, Vaughan Animal Services deferred this process indefinitely – and has stated they are not allowing us to continue operating our no-kill facility. This is extremely disappointing and a loss for your community of which we share.   We not only provide a service (which is a Canadian Charity but not financed by the government) which includes the care, vetting and rehoming of surrendered and stray cats that find themselves roaming the streets, desperate, cold and hungry ……but we also provide many high school students and "budding Vets" as a place to learn "hands on" about the care of cats plus the opportunity for so many to complete their community hours.

We have, on many instances, been recommended by the City of Vaughan and often Georgina Animal Services as a great place to contact for help.   In November, 2020 we were honored as a Number One Animal Rescue Organization in the GTA and awarded the Readers Choice GOLD STAR Award.

We are again asking the City of Vaughan to reconsider the support as we have set out and trust others in the Community also understand how CRITICAL it is to keep these abandoned, suffering animals off the streets and out of high-kill centers !

If you believe in a no-kill environment for these innocent, abandoned souls, then PLEASE sign this petition to help us continue our valuable work.

Rescuing one cat won't change the world but it will change the world for that one cat!
