The allowance of an RV park such as has been proposed, is a bad idea for the following reasons:
1) Such plans are not in keeping with the character and preservation of a quaint historic coastal community such as we have on Amelia Island.
2) The current 64-acre site, which has been proposed, would destroy the character of the Amelia Island Parkway, and one of the last remaining sizable tracts of wooded land on the Island. Note: The exact details of this plan may have changed since the original linked proposal.
3) This road is traveled by many en route to The Amelia Island Plantation and The Ritz Carlton.
4) It would create a substantial traffic burden on the adjoining Parkway, Bailey Road and especially the already over-crowded AIA, which already has a poor traffic capacity rating.
5) There are currently only two ways off of the Island in cases of emergency evacuations such as hurricanes, and both of these roads are already filled to capacity.
6) The current planned site is surrounded by zoned residential neighborhoods such Isle De Mai, and both the visual and noise impact to these neighborhoods would therefore not be acceptable.
7) The RV park would greatly impact property values, especially the previously mentioned neighborhoods such as Isle De Mai.
8) There is an RV park already on the Island at Ft. Clinch State Park.
9) With the considerable recent tree removal on the island, there is a growing consciousness in the community with regard to the need to save what little natural spaces are remaining. This has tremendous impact regarding sustainable appeal and resulting economics for the area.

Dear City and County Officials,
The undersigned are formally lodging opposition to any use of Parcel 00-00-30-044B-0037-0010 (Unincorporated Island District 5) and Parcel 00-00-30-044B-0034-0000 (Fernandina Beach District 2) for purposes of constructing an RV park on Amelia Island as proposed by Mr. Bob Allison.
According to the plan on Mr. Allison’s website, many of the individual RV sites are intended to be placed directly behind residential homes in Isle de Mai, other adjacent residential areas, and on both sides of the Amelia Island Parkway.
Our reasons for opposition for having an RV park on the Island are manyfold, as enumerated in the Overview of this Petition. We are concerned that such a project would adversely affect our home values, and is not in keeping with the nature and character of our cherished Island community. The impact that this park will have on traffic, emergency management, human services, municipal services, and loss of green space is significant and must be taken into account.
Although it is stated that the intended use is for a “luxury RV Resort," that phrase is, at best, a subjective concept.
Please consider this a formal request to deny the use of the above-stated parcels for this purpose. Not having such a development will benefit our residential communities and help to preserve the quality of life in Fernandina Beach and on Amelia Island.
