Support the Egg Standards Bill!

U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and seven other senators recently introduced a bill that would reform the egg industry and improve the lives of 280 hens nationwide. This bill, called the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012 (S. 3239), would double the amount of allowable space for all egg-laying hens, ban starvation molting and excess ammonia levels, and add messages to egg cartons informing consumers about production methods.

Many egg producers keep hens in small battery cages that prevent them from nesting and perching. In enforcing expanded space, S. 3239 would give egg-laying hens an opportunity to express their natural behaviors. Reduced ammonia levels would prevent the respiratory problems that plague many hens raised in poor conditions.

Egg-laying hens raised in higher standards will live higher quality lives and produce healthier eggs. Please sign the petition to encourage Congress to pass the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012.

We, the undersigned, are writing to express our support for the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012 (S. 3239).
