Stop the sales of tattoo and piercing supplies to non licensed people.

Craigslist, Amazon, Ebay, online suppliers and local vendors in shops and flea markets are selling piercing and tattoo supplies to anyone that has the money to buy materials. Legally!   However, they are selling to minors and to people who have not been trained in body modification what so ever.

This petition along with meeting local and state officials to help revise current codes and regulations will hopefully put an end to all of this. This petition will help put an end to these sales and make them illegal.

Lack of knowledge in application or tattoos can lead to the following:

  • Allergic reactions. Tattoo dyes — especially red, green, yellow and blue dyes — can cause allergic skin reactions, such as an itchy rash at the tattoo site. This can occur even years after you get the tattoo.
  • Skin infections. A skin infection — which might cause redness, swelling, pain and a pus-like drainage — is possible after tattooing.
  • Other skin problems. Sometimes bumps called granulomas form around tattoo ink. Tattooing can also lead to keloids — raised areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue.
  • Bloodborne diseases. If the equipment used to create your tattoo is contaminated with infected blood, you can contract various bloodborne diseases — including tetanus, MSRA, HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.

With piercing you face the following:

  • Allergic reactions. Some piercing jewelry — particularly pieces made of nickel — can cause allergic reactions.
  • Oral complications. Jewelry worn in tongue piercings can chip and crack your teeth and damage your gums. Tongue swelling after a new piercing can interfere with chewing and swallowing — and sometimes breathing.
  • Skin infections. A skin infection — which might cause redness, swelling, pain and a pus-like discharge — is possible after a piercing.
  • Other skin problems. Piercing can lead to scars and keloids — raised areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue.
  • Bloodborne diseases.  If the equipment used to create your tattoo is contaminated with infected blood, you can contract various bloodborne diseases — including tetanus, MSRA, HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
  • Tearing or trauma. Jewelry can get caught and torn out accidentally, potentially requiring stitches or other repair.

This petition is to assist in making the sale of tattoo an piercing supplies to non licensed personel illegal.  This is to assist in preventing disease and cross contamination.
