Tell Congress Clean Energy Isn't a Bargaining Chip

As Congress is considering ways to reform the tax code, it is imperative that American innovation and competitiveness be preserved and strengthened through smart policies that increase – not hamper - the rapid job growth seen in the clean energy sector.

There are now more than 3 million clean energy jobs in the United States, according to the Department of Energy.

One of the stated goals of this reform effort is ensuring American businesses can operate by a set of clear, understandable rules. But the tax bill making its way through Congress would repeal or severely damage previous bipartisan deals on clean energy incentives in order to pay for big tax breaks for corporations. This is a direct threat to the over 3 million Americans working in the clean energy sector

If you think that’s wrong and Congress should be giving hard-working Americans more confidence, not doubt, about their jobs then sign this petition telling Congress to:

  • Not repeal the previously agreed-to extension and phase down of the Investment Tax Credit (ITC) which helps grow solar energy and the Production Tax Credit (PTC) which helps grow wind energy
  • Honor an agreement to extend the ITC deal to other clean energy technologies like geothermal and fuel cells
  • Reinstate energy efficiency tax credits that support millions of jobs in construction and manufacturing
  • Not prematurely repeal an electric vehicle tax credit that saves consumers money at the pump, while driving innovation for American car makers

The renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors create jobs. They save money for consumers and businesses alike. They drive innovation and competitiveness in our energy markets and linked industries across America.

By signing on to this petition you are telling Congress:

“As business owners, investors, workers, and consumers, we urge you to continue to build on the successful utilization of the tax code to promote American innovation and jobs by protecting and expanding clean energy tax provisions. Any tax reform legislation aimed at ensuring there are expanding business and employment opportunities for Americans must include policies that provide certainty for those sectors.”
