Ocoee Founders Day-Change the Date and Give Back!

November 2nd, is founders Day in the City of Ocoee, Florida.  Unfortunately, November 2nd, is also the date of the beginning of "The Ocoee Massacre: The Bloodiest Day in Modern American Political history!

This massacre lasted one week long and it began on Nov.2, 1920.

All the while; the residents, citizens, visitors, performers and yes probably the descendants of that dastardly day watch back as this city unapologetically celebrates the day a prominent black man by the name of July Perry was lynched and innocent Americans who just wanted to vote, were murdered!

On that day, 330 acres belonging to those African Americans was stolen; by killing them, torching their homes forcing them to flee into the woods or surrounding towns.  Be mindful that many were killed as they fled.

For the past 25 years, the City of Ocoee has inappropriately failed to recognize the horrible date and events of the Ocoee Massacre.  But have instead observed what they have dubbed "Founders Day." Which seems to be a Country jamboree festival showcasing non-diverse Artists, which denotes a lack of inclusion.

In other words, they convey an expression of come celebrates the attempted genocide every year with us on or close to the anniversary of The Ocoee Massacre.  They call this date "FOUNDERS DAY!" This has been going on for 25 years.

In all actuality the City of Ocoee was not founded in November the actual date is May, 1925.  They could have founders day in or around May instead on the actual date that Ocoee was founded.

It is time for this to end. This atrocity has not been hidden.  Awareness has been raised and there are many articles and information about the actual events of the Ocoee Massacre.

The massacre was bigger than Rosewood.  Yet, reparations were paid to the victims of Rosewood, though reparations have not been paid to the victims or descendants of The Ocoee Massacre.  Instead of making reparations they are celebrating.

Help us and the citizens of Ocoee end this atrocity. Let us get them to change the date and account for what they stole. We do not celebrate genocide.

This Petition is to request

A. Change the date of the celebration away from the month of November. Also, Declare Nov 2 as Julius July Perry day!

B. Show diversity in the Artists that participate in Any Founders Day Celebration.

C. Acknowledge via proclamation to be read by the Mayor that this atrocity occurred. A public apology to citizens.

D. Give back in the form of Reparations for the victims of the massacre.
