Support to name the Del Rio High School Practice Baseball Field after Pete Cardenas Jr.

This is a petition to support the renaming of the Del Rio High School practice baseball field after the late Pete Cardenas Jr.
Pete Cardenas Jr. was an educator and coach with the San Felipe Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District for 31 years. He was also a member and president of the school board. He was active in the community and did all he could to support, benefit, and better that community and the school district, both of which he loved dearly. He lived by five pillars: Coach, Friend, Faith, Family, Generosity, and portrayed those pillars in all that he did in life. Many people in the community benefited from his friendship and generosity, and there is no one he did not meet whom he didn't treat like family. Pete died on November 7, 2017 due to complications with cancer, but we hope to keep his legacy alive.
The naming of the practice baseball field is a small gesture so that we may remember his life. Baseball was the sport that Pete loved most, and he was a coach for the Del Rio Baseball team during his tenure at the high school. It is a very fitting gesture for it to be named after him.
His family asks that you please sign the petition so that we may present it to the school board in the near future. Thank you and God Bless.
WE NEED YOU’RE HELP!
The School District voted 4-3 in favor of not opening up naming rights to individuals for the new elementary school. Their reasoning: “it would get political”. Due to their fear to make tough decisions, they not only provided a disservice to Pete, but to everyone wanting to petition to name the school.
At the next meeting (July 19th), we'd love to have tons of people speak on Pete’s behalf.

As I mentioned, I have sent the president my official request and list of signatures. These things usually gain momentum slowly, but momentum can get a push from persistence.
I plan to attend one of the school board meeting and speak during the community comments segment, probably in April. I will inform you once this is certain. It would be great to have many people in attendance. I'll keep you updated. In the meantime, letters/emails don't hurt!

My family and I are so grateful to all of you for the love and support you have shown for my dad. We've received almost 200 signatures in less than a week.
Update: I've sent the link along with a formal request to the vice president and president of the school board. I'm hoping it will be taken up as an issue at a future meeting. It doesn't hurt to email them as well, but that's at your discretion. I'll keep you posted on any developments!
