Heights Neighborhood Tree Proposal

Yes, I want to save our tree canopy!

In an effort to help preserve our beautiful tree canopy, maintain our property values, and improve our area's drainage, the Heights Neighborhood Association is asking the city to pass the Heights neighborhood tree ordinance.

Developed over an 18-month process and passed unanimously by the Heights Neighborhood Association, this ordinance is limited in scope and applies only to single-family homeowners who apply for a demolition or construction permit, including new construction or additions greater than 600 square feet, who would like to remove one or more trees from their street frontage. It does not pertain to individuals with current construction or demolition permits or owners of office, multi-family or conditional-use permits (e.g., churches, country clubs).

Under the proposal, the individual would be required to plant or retain a 2.5" or greater caliper tree for every 40 feet of street frontage prior to receiving an occupancy permit. If an individual keeps a 12" or greater diameter tree, it will fulfill all the tree requirements for that property. It specifies the tree species that will grow large enough to replace the canopy. However, homeowners can apply for alternative species through city approval.

We need your support to get the Heights neighborhood tree ordinance passed at City Hall! That's why we're asking you to please read the complete proposal and sign our petition.
