Stop importing unsustainable palm oil into the UK!

Britons are contributing to wildlife extinction and global warming every time we consume a product that contains palm oil that has been produced unsustainably.

We must refuse the importation of products that cause animal cruelty and global warming. There are plenty of options available including sustainably grown palm oil. If we must have palm oil in our products, including biofuel for electricity and cars, then let it be sustainable palm oil !

Dear Minister Benyon

I am writing to thank you for the leadership role that your government has shown in supporting RSPO certified palm oil as a statement against global warming.

I am writing today to urge you to expand that statement and restrict the importation of all palm oil products to only those that are sustainably produced.

Over 80% of the palm oil produced today is done so unsustainably with a shocking disregard for wildlife and nature. Britons indeed are contributing to wildlife extinction and global warming every time we consume a product that contains this type of palm oil.

As the industry expands outside of its traditional production base in Malaysia and Indonesia, we are starting to see alarming reports of human rights abuses and extinction threats to wildlife in Africa. Britons must not be an unwitting partner to these atrocities.

Industry members producing sustainable palm oil have already confirmed that sustainably produced palm oil is now readily available to meet all the needs of the British consumer and indeed, one of the better producers refines its products in Leeds,UK in order to show complete traceability and transparency of its sustainably produced palm oil.

Our government must legislate the importation of palm oil to restrict its importation to only those that that have audited and confirmed to be cruelty and deforestation free.
