President Trump has barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico journalists from the White House and revoked their credentials. The news organizations are now asking the federal courts to restore their access, arguing that the government cannot punish journalists because it dislikes their reporting.
And a decision could come at any time.
This is bigger than just the media directly involved, this is about freedom of the press, and the First Amednment itself.
A free press exists so journalists can question powerful people, investigate the government, and report things those in power may not want reported.
Presidents should not be able to turn White House press credentials into rewards for favorable coverage. Because once that becomes the norm, freedom of press will simply become a quaint relict from the past.
