In a disturbing sign of the Florida governor's growing theocratic authoritarianism, Ron DeSantis suspended Hillsborough County state attorney Andrew Warren for refusing to enforce the state's draconian abortion ban and for showing support for trans kids.
"When you flagrantly violate your oath of office, when you make yourself above the law, you have violated your duty, you have neglected your duty and you are displaying a lack of competence to be able to perform those duties," oozed DeSantis at a press conference announcing the move.
Tell Ron DeSantis to stop prosecuting abortions and to leave trans kids alone!
Warren, of course, has done no such thing. The state attorney was elected in 2016 and re-elected in 2020. Voters chose him for his policies and for his beliefs, and DeSantis is overriding the will of the people by suspending him.
If we don't speak out now, DeSantis will continue to abuse his power to abuse, harass, and silence those who don't share his hateful, bigoted beliefs.
