Present The Winter Park Historic Preservation Report DURING A Regular Commission Meeting

There are two words which often appear under the LUVly seal for the City of Winter Park:  Culture & Heritage.  That is surely no accident, sends a message of what we as a community see as important.  Historic preservation, our appreciation of our history, including historic structures, figures into both.   Over a decade ago community members came together to save a wonderful historic home, Casa Feliz, from the bulldozer.  This year we were faced, yet again, with the SAME dilemma . . . move one of our historic homes -- one of the FIRST built in our city -- or watch it be destroyed.  Again, the community has rallied and it will be save.  But you only get so many 'move' cards.  By nature of what appears on our city seal, the community outcry which resulted from the plight of The Capen House, it is obvious historic preservation is of significant importance to our community.  To that end, the city commissioned a report by Bland & Associates of Charleston, S.C., assessing the state of historic preservation in Winter Park.  I do not know the sum paid for this report, have heard a wide range.  No matter the amount, this is of significant importance to this city and we -- all who sign this petition -- believe it deserves to be presented before a regular meeting of the Winter Park City Commission, with live broadcast via the internet, an opportunity for both the Commission and the attending public, possibly even those listening online, to ask questions.  This IS important for Winter Park.  It says it right there on our city seal.

I LUV Winter Park.  The historic nature of our community is surely integral to what makes it so wonderfully special.
