What if this happened to your child, brother, or uncle? On January 29th, 2018, Khalil Lawal was shot 15 times by off-duty Philadelphia Police Officer James Powell. Murdered in cold blood by an off-duty officer; Khalil was shot at point-blank range and then several more times as he was already laid on the ground. #Shot15Times
Prior to the shooting, Khalil accidentally struck a pedestrian that had been crossing the street. Powell had not witnessed any of this. Khalil stopped. Although Khalil was unarmed, Powell approached Khalil from behind with his gun out but hidden down by his side. Seconds after the encounter, Powell began shooting Khalil. #Shot15Times
Despite being shot 15 times, Khalil received no medical help from Powell or any other officers that eventually showed up, as he laid bleeding on the ground for several minutes. #Shot15Times
Instead, immediately after the shooting Khalil was handcuffed, searched, rolled over, searched again, and then his body was sloppily carried a few feet toward an ambulance by 4-5 officers. Khalil succumbed to his injuries about 2 hours later. #Shot15Times
