Please sign and share this petition nationwide in an effort to gain justice for Geist the dog who was shot by a police officer for no apparent reason. The officer states that he was entering the fenced in yard to look for a missing child; Geist's backyard. The child was not in the yard and the officer claims the dog got close to him so he shot it dead! This officer needs to be disciplined and relieved of his duties for his inappropriate actions.

In Salt Lake City, Utah, an officer was on assignment to investigate a missing child, a 3-year-old boy who was later found. When the officer forcibly entered a private fenced-in yard that was the home of the Sean Kendall's Weimaraner dog named Geist, the dog was shot at and killed without provocation. He says he felt threatened because the dog got close but no apparent growling, charging or an attempt to charge him. He clearly sounds like an incident of using his power as a cop. The dog did not have to die!!

Since the incident, hundreds of two and four-legged supporters, are in protest with signs that say "Justice for Geist," "Man’s best friend should not be gunned down," and "My pets are my family." The shooting ignited controversy and national discussion about how law enforcement handles pets that act aggressively. The belief is that officers should be better trained in handling family pets without killing them!

A spokesperson during the rally stated "I handle a lot of what you might call aggressive dogs for my job, and there’s a lot of different things you can do to calm them down. This dog was not loose but in its own yard. A dog can get protective in their own space when a stranger comes, but there’s no reason that something like this should happen."

An investigation is underway and Officer Olsen's supervisor, Chief Burbank states that  “Absolutely demand that every single one of my officers treats the public with the respect and dignity that they deserve. My officer... and officers deserve no less." This officer needs to be more severely disciplined for his actions rather just desk duty; he should be relieved of his duties.

Salt Lake City, Utah Police Department - The officer who shot an innocent pet, Geist needs to be relieved of his position and not allowed to carry a gun! His handling of this situation was extremely inappropriate and the animal was in its own yard. Everyone is always told to train and restrain their pets; then the officer enters that property of the animal and claims the dog came too close to him within the fenced-in yard so he shot it dead! He needs to be severely punished and train all your other officers in proper and humane methods of handling people's pets that does not involve just shooting them! People consider their pets to be family members! This dog was not roaming around; Geist was in its own fenced-in yard and what happened is so unjust to the animal and the owners!
