Situated in Ashtown in Dublin, Ireland is Ashton Dog Pound; an outdated, filthy place where unfortunately, many dogs will die.
Putting healthy dogs down is an outdated and evil thing to do. Dogs are not items that can just be disposed of as people please but apparently this business thinks otherwise. They may use excuses such as over-crowding but at the end of the day, is there ever really a good excuse for taking a life? According to a report in the Irish Times last year, about five dogs are put down EVERY DAY in Irish pounds. For such a small country, that number is actually very high. Ashton Dog Pound contributes to a large amount of the dogs being killed.
Most people that visit Ashton Dog Pound have the same response: that it should be shut down. That is how horrible this place is. The dogs are left wet and cold. There are no bedding in the kennels and of course not a single toy. These dogs just want to be loved but this pound treat with them with absolutely no respect at all. The dogs are not cared for in any way. Their nails are left to grow without being trimmed, the dogs are scared, they are not groomed. It is no way for man's best friend to be treated. The people that work there have no love for the dogs, they are just doing a job.
Recently, a video was posted to Facebook which shows a dog warden working for Ashton Dog Pound dragging a dog violently by the neck and throwing her into a vehicle. A woman spent hours trying to save the neglected dog and was told to calm down after becoming hysterical over the way the dog was treated. Is this really the way that an animal should be treated?! If this is the way the wardens treat dogs while in public view, imagine how the dogs are treated when no one is watching.
It would be in the pound's best interest to treat the dogs better and give them more space, blankets, enough food & water, shelter and toys and show them some love because more people would visit the pound, more dogs would get adopted and more money would be made for the pound. It would work out for everyone.
These are some of many reasons why Ashton Dog Pound need to change the way they do things. They need to treat the dogs better and STOP putting healthy dogs down.
