Florida Republican Sen. Blaise Ingoglia has filed a bill, "the Ultimate Cancel Act," that would eliminate the Florida Democratic Party if it passes.
The bill would "immediately cancel" the filings of any political party whose platform had "previously advocated for, or been in support of, slavery or involuntary servitude," which would mean the Democratic Party from 150 years ago — whose racist members all left to join the Republican Party.

A preposterous and performative attempt to both "gotcha!" the Democrats and to promote the ahistorical right-wing narrative of Democrats as the "real racists," it nevertheless represents an escalation of the authoritarianism that beats at the heart of the modern Republican Party.
