Rescind or Revise March 2020 Order for Isolation/Quarantine

We are asking the Macon County Commissioners to rescind or revise their Isolation/Quarantine Order signed March 23, 2020 to stop the quarantine of healthy individuals. This order is significantly impacting our public high schools in Macon County and wwill have long lasting impacts on our children, their mental, physical, spiritual health and will negatively impact our economy and community for decades to come. A community without a school will not be sustainable. Protect the vulnerable and those that have health concerns. They have the right to choose what is best for their situation, however we must let everyone else move forward and allow for them to make the choices best for their situation. We know significantly more about the situation now than we did in March and we absolutely have treatments that have been proven to work since that time. This order was appropriate for March, it is not what we need to have in place right now and is not being utilized consistently across all organizations. Our schools have been negatively impacted since March 2020 and when they have been in session virtually, the model has proven to be unsuccessful and a failure on many levels. We must get our children back in school and in person 5 days week. Public education is right guaranteed in this nation to those under 18. We ask that you rescind or revise this order immediately and have the health department focus on protecting the vulnerable and adding value to our community through services that they can offer to assist us with our recovery from this crisis like mental health services, nutrition, recovery programs from substance abuse and addiction. Our community will need services like these in the years to come due to this crisis.
