Revoke Slapjack Rule to Restore Integrity and Harmony

The National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) has two rules that have caused discord in the community - players call these rules "slamming" or "slapjack". One rule can be found in Mah Jongg Made Easy (page 19, #13a) "When two players simultaneously call the same tile for an exposure, the player nearest in turn to the discarder gets the preference, unless the other player has started to expose their tiles." The other rule is posted on the NMJL/FAQ page (#3) page stating "When two players want the same tile for Mah Jongg, player next in turn to discarder has preference EXCEPT when other caller has started to expose tiles."

There are two reasons why most members believe these rules should be revoked, first and foremost, these rules create a disadvantage for players who are not as physically or mentally nimble as others. Secondly, these rules give players a license to act aggressively which can negatively affect not only the atmosphere of the game in play but the integrity, reputation, and culture of the NMJL and its membership.
