According to the last census, the population of Brookville, Pennsylvania, hovers around 4,000 inhabitants. It's a small town that most people would likely never have heard of, but recently the village has been thrown into the spotlight. And not for a good reason.
A video of two Brookeville residents torturing an injured deer on the opening day of the Pennsylvania deer season has made the entire world furious. Sign the petition to demand justice for the abused deer.
The video shows Cody Hetrick and Alex Smith, two "men" who fancy themselves hunters, standing over a deer they have apparently wounded. The deer, eyes-wide-open and tongue hanging out, is clearly in pain. One of the cretins stands on the animal's windpipe while the other one proceeds to kick it several times in the face.
While the deer suffers in agony, reeling from blow after brutal blow, the two chuckle with glee.
It's a shameful picture of cruelty and one that MUST be taken seriously by the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) - the state agency responsible for wildlife conservation and management. PGC is aware of the horrific video and has suggested that the acts that took place on the video could be a violation of the law. While legality may be in question, there is no doubt that animal cruelty took place here. Thus Hetrick and Smith must be charged accordingly. Any other action would send a message that the state of Pennsylvania doesn't take these types of crimes seriously.
Sign the petition and ask the Pennsylvania Game Commission and law enforcement in Brookeville to charge the two with animal cruelty and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Tell them to revoke their hunting licenses for life, as well.
