Have actors from the upcoming movie Split make a PSA about Dissociative Identity Disorder

about 1-3% of the population has Dissociative Identity Disorder(DID), previously known as multiple personality disorder. People with DID (and all mental illnesses) are statistically more likely to be the victim of a crime and no more likely to commit a crime, yet we are still criminalized and demonized by the media and pop culture. DID has a long history of being misunderstood often due to how we are portrayed in pop culture.

The purpose of this petition is to ask the people involved in this movie to have the actors create a PSA letting people know that violence in people with DID is very rare and that we are not killers. We just want to live our lives in peace and be accepted for who we are. We don't want to have to hide for fear of judgment, something we know about all to well.

If you have ever been judged based on something you can't control about yourself I encourage you to sign our petition that will help raise awareness on what DID really is. In addition I encourage you to ask questions and educate yourself. Thank you and take care!

Dear Universal Studios, Blumhouse Productions and Blinding edge pictures,

I am writing you in regards to your upcoming movie Split. I am concerned it may add to the stigma surrounding Dissociative Identity Disorder and therefore am requesting you make a PSA about what DID really is using the actors from the movie. We would like this PSA to explain that people with DID are generally not dangerous and we make up about 1-3% of the population. We would also like people to know DID is a way of survival for people who have gone through severe childhood trauma and is not the same as Schizophrenia, although the majority of people with Schizophrenia are not dangerous either. In addition we ask that the information you used is from the sites aninfinitemind.com and traumadissociation.com becasue these sites have the right information on them. We also ask you talk to people with DID and show them the PSA before releasing it to make sure it has correct and unoffensive information.

people with DID are more likely to be the victim of a crime than commit one and the overwhelming majority of us just want to live our lives without fear of being judged or feared. We would like to be able to talk about our DID without peoples minds going straight to killers and criminals.

Thank you for taking the time to listen to what I have to say and take care.
