Demand an End to Plastic Water Bottle Use in Arlington Schools

At Arlington Schools, plastic water bottles are sold and are thrown away everyday. Yes, we have recycling bins, but they are not being used effectively. Our motto is Reduce, Reuse, REFUSE.

Water bottles contain Dioxin and BPA, which are cancer causing chemicals. They can get into the water while being transported because of temperature changes--even BEFORE the first use.

Did you know it takes twice the amount of water to make a plastic water bottle than what actually goes into the bottle?

To drink 8 ounces a day from plastic water bottles cost $1,400 a year, while the same amount from tap water costs $0.49! (Faucet filters can be purchased for $20 or less!)

17 million gallons of oil are used to make plastic water bottles for America each year. That could power 1.3 million cars!

Our club is raising money to buy another Water Filter for cafeterias A and B at Arlington High School. Biodegradable cups could be placed near the water stations so that every student could have access to water. However, we are hoping that EVERY student can bring a REUSABLE water bottle to school everyday.
