Reduce Waste & Caffeinate Chico State!

Chico State, a prestigious and environmentally friendly university strives to take steps forward on the path to sustainability. Recently, numurous actions have been taken to achieve this. For example, in April of 2018 the university implemented a school wide ban on plastic straws. Additionally, Chico State was one of the first campuses in the United States to sign a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and become carbon neutral by 2030. Chico State is currently in the process of building a new state of the art science building. This facility will be as sustainable as it is aesthetically pleasing. This project aims to achieve LEED silver certification and continue identifing additional ways to incorporate sustainable practices.

But, as Chico State continues to become more sustainable their are still many issues that are preventing us from achieving this. One issue is coffee cup use and waste. Only one of the many locations on campus where students can purchase a cup of coffee allows a few cent discount for those who bring their own reusable coffee cup. But, with the help of students and faculty of Chico State we can resolve this issue and reduce waste if more locations offered acess to better discounted or FREE coffee as long as one brings their own reusable cup. Not only would this save the university a sufficient amount of money considering their would no longer be a need to purchase as many coffee cups, sleeves and lids, it will also help our university take more steps on the road to sustainability.

This proposition proposes that adding more self serve coffee pump dispensers in places such as the library, sylvestries cafe and the BMU will motivate students to BYOC and get coffee at a lower or free cost. Sign this petition if you want the option to receive discounted or free coffee in more locations, are tired of throwing away coffee cup after cup, or most importantly would like to help Chico State University continue on its path to sustainability.
