Texas: Keep Dogs Safe in Bed of Trucks!

We, the citizens of Texas, petition the state to make it illegal for dogs to ride in the bed of pick up trucks without a secured kennel.

Dogs riding in the back of pick up trucks without kennels is and has been an issue for several years. Most of the dogs you see dead on the side of the road have either jumped, fallen, or been dragged to their death by not being kept in a secured kennel. According to American Humane in 2018, 100,000 dogs are killed each year in accidents involving riding freely in bed of trucks. Texas is far behind California, Connecticut, Massachussets, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, and many others with similar laws, who have already made it illegal.

I demand that the State of Texas create a law that owners are required to secure their pets safely in a kennel while driving a pick up truck on a public road.
