Support funding for a visionary transportation agenda in San Mateo County that meets community needs

I support the Transportation Equity Allied Movement Coalition (TEAMC's) San Mateo County transportation expenditure plan proposal to meaningfully address traffic congestion on local roads and highways and advance affordable, safe, sustainable, convenient, and healthy transportation choices to connect people of all incomes, ages, and abilities to homes, jobs, schools, and other destinations.

San Mateo County's next transportation funding measure, must:
-Focus on moving more people in fewer cars and reducing car trips to address traffic congestion on local roads and highways,
-Create safer streets, especially for people walking and biking ,
-Promote sustainable development, including more options to live near transit, and
-Ensure that low- and moderate-income people and other disadvantaged populations benefit the most from the measure's spending.

I urge the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and SamTrans Board of Directors to devote at least 60% of the measure's funding towards public transit and paratransit services, at least 10% towards bicycle and pedestrian projects and programs, and at least 10% towards equitable strategies to reduce the number of cars on the road and transportation infrastructure to support affordable, low-traffic homes near transit.
