Demand Eric Pickles Resigns For Insulting Care Home Abuse Victim

A survivor of child abuse confronted Eric Pickles for help after he repeatedly ignored her. Eric Pickles' response? 'Just... adjust your medication'.

Teresa Cooper claims that she was forcefully restrained and given dangerous overdoses of anti-psychotic drugs while in the Kendall House care home in Kent. This has apparently caused their children have genetic defects. She sent numerous requests for assistance to the Communities and Local Government Minister, but all were ignored.

Coming from such a high level of government, this comment is not only offensive and cruel; it also furthers mental health prejudices. This is totally unacceptable, especially in light of the victims' suffering. Demand that Eric Pickles resigns now!

Dear Eric Pickles,

A few days ago you told one of your constituents, Teresa Cooper, a survivor of child abuse to 'Just... adjust your medication'. We believe that this is not acceptable behaviour for a UK Government leader and request that you resign your post as Minister for Communities and Local Government.

Teresa claims that she was forcefully restrained and given dangerous overdoses of anti-psychotic drugs while in the Kendall House care home in Kent. This has apparently caused survivors children to have genetic defects.

Coming from such a high level of government, this comment is not only offensive and cruel; it also furthers mental health prejudices. This is totally unacceptable, especially in light of the particular way that Teresa Cooper and her friends were allegedly treated.

We believe that a fair and unprejudiced Government cannot be seen to perpetuate abuse and discrimination against the mentally ill and to make light of victims' experience.

In order to save the Government embarrassment and show your contrition, we demand that you resign your post as Minister for Communities and Local Government.
