A PETITION TO RESTORE BETHESDA'S "MADONNA OF THE TRAIL" STATUE TO A MORE PROMINENT POSITION IN OUR CITY'S LANDSCAPE

  • by: David H Moulton
  • recipient: Montgomery County and Bethesda officials and decisionmakers

PLEASE SHOW YOUR SUPPORT FOR WOMEN'S COURAGE,FOR HISTORY AND FOR BETHESDA.

We the People of Bethesda, Maryland, and surrounding communities believe that the Madonna of the Trail Statue, the most important statue in Bethesda and one of the only statues erected in Maryland to honor a woman, deserves to be restored to the same prominence in the landscape and imagination of our town that she once held when dedicated by Judge Harry Truman in 1929. Therefore, we wish to express our strong support for moving the Madonna of the Trail monument to a permanent home facing west on the grounds of the Farm Women's Co-op Market.

Update #14 years ago
Happy New Year! The year 2020 has been declared "The Year of the Woman" in Maryland. Let's make this the year that the only statue honoring a woman in Bethesda (and one of the only statues honoring a woman in Maryland) is relocated to the new park planned behind the Farm Women's Market, or a similar park-like setting.
