Ask.fm: Crack Down on Bullying! Enough Children Have Been Hurt!

  • by: Emily Lohrman
  • recipient: Ask.fm owners Ilya and Mark Terebin

Another teenager has killed herself because of online bullying. Fourteen-year-old Hannah Smith hanged herself after being exposed to horrific abuse and trolling from users on the site Ask.fm. And this was after she joined the site to get support when she was feeling upset.

What more will it take? The owners of Ask.fm say that they attempt to moderate, but clearly there is not enough being done. The site allows young children and teenagers to post anonymously, which is clearly part of the appeal. But with the millions of dollars that the owners are making from this site, they can SURELY allocate more resources to moderation.

We call on the owners of Ask.fm to take responsibility for the deaths and the horrific abuse that has occurred as a result of their site. We demand that they triple their resources on moderation, including harsh publishment (IP blocking) for anyone caught using hate speech on the site. Please sign today to send a clear message that we will not tolerate them making millions off of children's suffering!
