Say Yes to Local Beer in Lafayette!

The Issue:
Sawbriar Brewery is trying to open the city of Lafayette's only microbrewery in the historic downtown area. Some local resident and business owners are trying to stop us because of pre-existing bar problems a few blocks away and a misconception that we are "just another bar". We are a service-disabled veteran owned small business run by local husband & wife team, John and Jessica Paul. The brew pub will showcase handcrafted beer made on site, great local cuisine, and be available for weddings and similar special events. Oh, and it's right next door to Parc International where Festival International de Louisiane is held.

The Concern:
The citizens of Lafayette, Louisiana recently supported the lifting of the downtown moratorium on new alcohol retail spaces. Microbreweries must be listed as bars, per local codes. Sawbriar submitted a request for a conditional zoning use to occupy 402 Garfield as a "bar" because that's how the law is written. City Planning staff recommended this be allowed, but the Planning Commission voted not to recommend. Now we need your support to show the City-Parish Council Members that Lafayette residents really do want a local brewery to attract additional tourism business and healthy downtown development.

The Solution:
Sign up! If you are a Lafayette resident or business owner, please sign our petition with your name. Signing means you support allowing Sawbriar Brewery to operate a microbrewery at 402 Garfield Street, Lafayette, LA 70501. Sawbriar pledges to work with local residents to be a positive neighborhood partner, not a nuisance.

Thank you all or your support!

Dear Supporters,
Thanks for your efforts and positive comments. Yesterday, Councilman Pat Lewis of District 3 used a pulled our motion early for immediate discussion and vote at its introduction. We asked but Council would not consider a deferment and we were forced to "defend" early without our supporters present. Our opposition, including DUI attorney Barry Sallinger, Mr. Landry of Don's Seafood and Keith Poirier (Insurance) spoke against. Council would not acknowledge your support.

Happy Halloween Lafayette! Don't be 'scared' to call your city council representative and tell them you support local beer for Acadiana! It only takes a moment. The council vote is Nov 20th.

Cheers!

Dear Sawbriar Supporters,
We had a great time meeting and talking to people downtown today at the Boudin Festival. They were excited to hear about Sawbriar Brewery! Thanks for all the support Lafayette, but we're not done yet! Please call your city-parish council representative this week, and tell them you support Sawbriar Brewery's zoning request. Every call helps! Not sure who that is? Find out here: http://lcg.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=17b493800f734746a4f22d7ecbef4698
