The Issue:
Sawbriar Brewery is trying to open the city of Lafayette's only microbrewery in the historic downtown area. Some local resident and business owners are trying to stop us because of pre-existing bar problems a few blocks away and a misconception that we are "just another bar". We are a service-disabled veteran owned small business run by local husband & wife team, John and Jessica Paul. The brew pub will showcase handcrafted beer made on site, great local cuisine, and be available for weddings and similar special events. Oh, and it's right next door to Parc International where Festival International de Louisiane is held.
The Concern:
The citizens of Lafayette, Louisiana recently supported the lifting of the downtown moratorium on new alcohol retail spaces. Microbreweries must be listed as bars, per local codes. Sawbriar submitted a request for a conditional zoning use to occupy 402 Garfield as a "bar" because that's how the law is written. City Planning staff recommended this be allowed, but the Planning Commission voted not to recommend. Now we need your support to show the City-Parish Council Members that Lafayette residents really do want a local brewery to attract additional tourism business and healthy downtown development.
The Solution:
Sign up! If you are a Lafayette resident or business owner, please sign our petition with your name. Signing means you support allowing Sawbriar Brewery to operate a microbrewery at 402 Garfield Street, Lafayette, LA 70501. Sawbriar pledges to work with local residents to be a positive neighborhood partner, not a nuisance.
Thank you all or your support!
