Hurricane Katrina individual SBA disaster loans should be forgiven after 10 years

The people of Louisiana were not responsible for the levee breaks that caused all of us to lose everything we owned. I lived in St. Bernard Parish and there was NOTHING left. The government loans have been discharged but the people continue to pay. It has been 10 years and it is time for us to be allowed to get out from under our debt and live again.

Dear Members of Congress and Administration of the SBA:

I am sending you this petition to ask for your help.  I know I don't need to go into the details of the total devestation that we suffered from Hurricane Katrina.  Suffice it to say that, along with hundreds of thousands of others, my family lost everything. We lived in Chalmette, LA at the time.  Cities and government agencies have since had their loans excused, quoting lack of funds to repay them.  Individuals such as myself have not had this life saving opportunity offered to them.  We lost everything and continue to pay for it, over 10 years later.  I recieved my loan in the immediate months following this disaster.  The rules at that time stated that you could not use the loan for a down payment on a home if you didn't own one prior to Katrina.  In my case the money was used for furniture, clothing, and other household goods.  I believe you can imagine how that 11 year old sofa is looking by now!!!!!  The people who you helped, and I do admit that your did help a lot, need it again!!!  Please, please fight for us to receive loan forgiveness for Katrina related loans.  We are suffering in this economy as much as everyone else.  We need your help!!!

Thank you in advance for your consideration of this matter.

Sincerely,

Karen Harden
